It is the start of another year and as we all look back at the last it is also extremely important that we also look forward and start making plans. If you need something to look forward to then why not start planning a trip to visit Edinburgh one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
We Scots are passionate people and we are well known across the globe for our warm welcome and hospitality. If there is nothing else on this list that makes you want to visit our beautiful home then we hope that at least our friendly and kind character may tempt you. There is no better drinking companion than us Scots and we will guarantee to provide you both with wisdom and laughter.
Scotland is renowned not only for its whiskies but for our passion for food. Edinburgh is full to the brink with some of the UK’s best Michelin star restaurants, great afternoon tea, bakeries, brilliant pub grub, hearty steakhouses, and street food vendors. Is street food more your kind of thing? If so then make sure you visit The Pitt Market which is Edinburgh’s pioneering street food venue. Fill your stomach with mouth-watering grub and watch live music then pop to Leith’s popular dockside bars and shops which all have a unique charm and make Leith a vibrant place to hang out. It’s only a short walk or taxi ride to the center of town.
Sport is not everyone’s cup of tea but sport is a big part of Edinburgh life. If you are a fan of rugby then Edinburgh’s professional rugby league team is Edinburgh Rugby who plays their home games at BT Murrayfield Stadium. Every year, the Guinness Six Nations Championship rolls into town, allowing BT Murrayfield to host at least two fixtures. As well as rugby Scotland is passionate about a variety of sports such as golf and football to name the obvious.
So we are not only passionate about our food but also our drink and we well know for bringing some of the best products to your table not just Whisky or Gin but Irn Bru a drink that confuses many. Edinburgh is perfect for anyone who passionate about learning more about whisky or gin, we have a variety of some of the best producers and offer great experiences for all audiences.
So you probably wouldn’t think Edinburgh is well known for walking but with one dormant volcano, seven hills, clusters of cobbled streets, and tantalizing vistas waiting around every bend, the capital is a fabulous place for a wander. Just make sure you venture up both Arthurs seat and Carlton Hill as they provide some of the best panoramic views of the city.
The history of Scotland is fascinating and complex; there are Roman soldiers, Vikings, noble clansmen, powerful ruling monarchs, and even enlightened philosophers. Scotland has experienced extraordinary growth and change during its lifetime – it’s a place that has been invaded and settled many times and that has made mighty contributions to culture and society. Our city is perfect for history buffs so make sure you visit one of our stunning castles and get yourself on a history tour there are endless topics to choose from.
Ok, so this is a no-brainer. Over the summer, the Edinburgh Festivals bring a wave of colour and soaring excitement to the city. Seven spectacular festivals proudly serve up the most incredible smorgasbord of culture you could ever imagine, filling the city’s performance venues and event spaces in late June, July, and August. Attend a star-studded film premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and listen to top-class live music when incredible musicians from all over the world roll into town for the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival.
From family days out to cultural pursuits, Edinburgh has a wealth of top attractions to satisfy all tastes, including some of Scotland’s most visited free and paid-for attractions. Depending on how long you have, why not visit some of these top Edinburgh attractions, perfect for family days out. Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh Zoo, Dynamic Earth, The Edinburgh Dungeon, Camera Obscura, National Museum of Scotland, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, and The Scotch Whisky Experience. These are just a handful, make sure you do some further research.
There are plenty of wonderful panoramic vistas in Edinburgh, but not many are hidden smack in the middle of the Old Town. The Rooftop Terrace at the National Museum of Scotland is one to add to your list! The National Museum of Scotland has been enchanting children and adults alike ever since it opened in the late 1800s, and these days it’s one of the most visited attractions in the country. But not all visitors know about its hidden gem.
From oil paintings to abstract installations, Edinburgh’s galleries showcase works that will stay with you long after you leave. Whether you’re drawn to traditional or contemporary art, prefer a sculpture over a sketchbook, or can’t get enough of all things abstract, Edinburgh’s melting pot of galleries can whet the appetite of any art lover. Ranging from grandeur to minimalist, their architecture reflects the shifting representation of art throughout the ages. While new visitors to Edinburgh might be tempted to visit only the city’s oldest and most striking buildings, it is very much worthwhile stepping into the city’s hidden gems.
